COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State collected 13 hits including three home runs on Wednesday in handing Central Michigan a 13-5 nonconference baseball loss at the Buckeyes' Bill Davis Stadium.

The Chippewas slipped to 31-16. They return to Mid-American Conference play with a three-game series beginning on Friday (3 p.m.) at Toledo.

CMU, which has won 18 of its last 22 games, is 17-7 in MAC play, tied for second place with Ball State. Kent State leads the league at 19-5. The Golden Flashes play at Eastern Michigan this weekend, while Ball State entertains Miami (Ohio).

Ohio is in fourth place at 14-10, while Western Michigan (13-10) is fifth.

The top four teams earn a berth in the MAC Tournament, which will be played on the campus of the regular season champion.

Two of Ohio State's home runs came in the second inning as the Buckeyes seized a 3-0 lead against CMU starter Michael Conte (3-1), who took the loss.

The Chippewas cut their deficit to 3-2 with two runs in the third on a Justin Simpson two-run single.

The Buckeyes answered with three runs in the bottom of the third, another in the fourth, and three in the fifth in increasing their lead to 10-3.

Simpson and Luke Sefcik had two hits apiece to lead the Chippewas, and Garrett Navarra hit his fourth homer of the season, a ninth-inning solo shot.
