THE FACILITY
The Dick Parfitt Gymnasium is a multi-use hardwood court, located in the John G. Kulhavi Center and just steps from McGuirk Arena. The gymnasium is used by not only the men’s and women’s basketball teams, but also used by the women’s volleyball team to practice. The Gymnasium also offers a great space for receptions and banquets.
Dick Parfitt was Central Michigan's head from 1971-85 and served as an assistant coach at CMU from 1962-71. He won 192 games in 14 seasons, the second-most victories of any coach in program history. His three MAC titles in 1975, 1977, and 1979 are the most for any head basketball coach in CMU history. He was named the MAC Coach of the Year in 1975. In his fourth year at the helm of the program, Parfitt led the Chippewas to an overall record of 22-6, their first MAC title, along with a 77-75 win over Georgetown in the NCAA Tournament Mideast Regional. Parfitt's 1977 championship team also appeared in the NCAA Tournament, while the 1979 squad participated in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT).
