The No. 1 and most important resource available to student-athletes at Central Michigan University is the Dick Enberg Academic Center, located inside the Indoor Athletic Complex. The 6,000-squre-foot facility houses a computer lab with 31 workstations, five tutoring rooms, a quiet study room that is monitored at all times, and the offices for the full-time academic staff.
The convenience of its location, inside the sprawling Indoor Athletic Complex, also sets the Dick Enberg Academic Center apart. The IAC boasts a premier weight room, the Jack Skoog Indoor Track, athletic training facilities, and a turf bay. The building is accessible to student-athletes from 8 a.m.-10 p.m. during the week.
A 1957 Central Michigan graduate, Dick Enberg began his full-time broadcasting career in 1965 in Los Angeles as the radio and television voice of the California Angels, UCLA basketball and the Los Angeles Rams. He is known as one of the most versatile play-by-play announcers of all-time, as he announced for the National Football League for 43 seasons, along with various Super Bowls, the Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl, the Olympic Games, Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, U.S. Open Tennis Championships, the Masters, PGA Championship, US Open Golf Championship, the Ryder Cup, the American and National League playoffs, World Series, heavyweight boxing championships, NCAA Men’s Basketball Championships, NBA Playoffs, and the NBA All-Star Game. He has also announced gymnastics, figure skating, Breeder’s Cup horse racing and track and field.
Enberg's versatility is reflected in the fact that he is the only individual to win national Emmy Awards as a sportscaster (1981, 1983, 1990, 1993), writer (1988, 1994, 1997, 1998, 1999 [2], 2004) and producer (1978).
A bust and statue depicting Enberg is also on display in Central Michigan's John G. Kulhavi Events Center atrium.
