THE FACILITY
The Turf Bay, located inside the Indoor Athletic Complex, is utilized by all 17 of Central Michigan's varsity programs, and is home to several camps, clinics and club teams.
Football, field hockey, soccer, lacrosse, baseball and softball all utilize the practice facility when poor weather forces them from their outdoor facilities. All 17 athletic programs use the facility as part of their strength and conditioning programs.
The facility boasts an AstroTurf's advanced RootZone 3DSF 52-ounce turf system playing surface, installed in June 2024 to replace the facility's FieldTurf artificial surface. The surface provides a safer and more grass-like training surface for all of its inhabitants. The state-of-the-art surface ensures top-notch performance and safety for student-athletes.
The installation was executed by AstroTurf Great Lakes, AstroTurf's exclusive distributor in Michigan. The innovative AstroTurf RootZone system is renowned for its durability, superior playability, and enhanced safety features. With its unique three-dimensional root zone and dense fiber construction, this turf system provides a natural grass-like feel while minimizing the risk of injuries.
CMU's Turf Bay is part of the Indoor Athletic Complex that opened in 1999. The Indoor Athletic Complex houses the turf bay, Dick Enberg Academic Center, weight room, athletic training room, team meeting room, administrative offices, baseball and track and field offices, and Jack Skoog Indoor Track and Field Facility.
