Chippewas 14th After Two Rounds of Play
BRIDGEPORT, W. Va. – Central Michigan Men's Golf stands 14th of 16 teams on Monday after the first day of the Mountaineer Invitational, hosted by West Virginia, at the Pete Dye Golf Club.
Whilst the Chippewas finished the second round, play was halted with two teams needing to finish the final holes of round two due to darkness.
CMU shot 312 and 311 in rounds one and two, respectively, on the par 72 course crafted by renowned golf course designer Pete Dye.
"This tournament is a great opportunity to prepare for the conference tournament," said Head Coach Kevin Jennings of the upcoming MAC Championship at the Club at Chatham Hills, a course also designed by Dye. "It's a great venue with great competition, so we're looking forward to applying what we've learned today to the future.
"You have to play a certain way, do things a certain way, so it's an opportunity for us to learn and to understand what must be done in order to be a competitive program."
Arie Jackman finished the day tied for 50th (+10), leading CMU. The senior shot 79 and 75, respectively.
Currently tied for 63rd are Jeffrey Andrus and Philippe Yturralde (+12). Andrus carded 76 and 80, Yturralde 77 and 79.
Trey Rusthoven stands tied for 68th and Easton Phillips is tied for 84th heading into Tuesday's final round.
"I want these guys to go out and apply their skill set and learn from what they're doing so we can continue to elevate," said Jennings ahead of Tuesday's regular season conclusion. "As long as they're learning, I feel confident that we are going to keep moving in a wonderful direction."
