ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Central Michigan men's golf moved up to eighth place in the 22-team standings on day two of the Peoples Golf Championship, presented by Sea Palms Resort.
Philippe Yturralde shot another 69 to lead CMU, and is 7th place individually heading into the final day on Saturday.
The Chippewas shot 285 as a team, an improvement from round one's 293.
"Sometimes on paper it's not indicative of how well we're doing or the strides we feel we're making," said Head Coach Kevin Jennings. "But today was an indicator, and we've been seeing indicators of where we feel like where we should be and what we should be doing.
"Today was one of those days, but we were able to make up some ground to the field and that's always a very solid thing to do in the second round of a three-round event. The course played a little more challenging today, but the guys were able to execute the game plan and continue to compete."
Jeffrey Andrus shot 70 on Friday, which combined with Thursday's 72, improves his individual rank to tie for 19th.
Arie Jackman moved up to 29th, also with 70 on Friday. The senior shot 74 on Thursday.
Easton Phillips (78, 76) ended the day tied for 99th and Orlando Coons (78, 83) tied for 124th.
Davidson College continues to lead the tournament through two days, now 21-under as a team. Shane Ochs (65, 68) of Wright State leads the 128-man field.
"We're looking to establish a level of consistency with what we're doing," Jennings said. "From there, we'll be able to branch out towards higher levels of competition and we look forward to continue executing our game plan in the way we intend to."
