Men's Golf 1 and 1 After First Day of Match Play; In Hunt for 5th

Chippewas win over Loyola, 4-0-2, in round two after falling 4-1-0 to Richmond Monday morning
DADE CITY, Fla. – No better way to start the year than with some match play.
Central Michigan men's golf opened the spring slate of its 2023-24 season on Monday at the MAC/A-10 Match Play Challenge, hosted by Ball State at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Dade City.
In the eight-team structure featuring four Mid-American Conference teams (CMU, Ball State, Ohio and Eastern Michigan) and four Atlantic 10 teams (Richmond, Loyola, Dayton and George Washington), the Chippewas picked up a win over Loyola in their second match of the day.
CMU fell to Richmond in its first match of the day, 0-5-1. CMU's Philippe Yturralde finished all square against Richmond's Cole Ekert.
The Chippewas found redemption against Loyola in the afternoon, winning 4-2.
Against the Ramblers, Yturralde posted a 2 and 1 victory; Arie Jackman won 2-up, Jeffrey Andrus claimed a 3 and 1 win, and Easton Phillips pulled out a 3 and 2 victory. Orlando Coons dropped his match, 1-down, as did Tyler Frechette, 3 and 2.
The Chippewas will play their third and final match of the event on Tuesday (8:30 a.m.) against Dayton in the battle for fifth place; the Flyers lost, 3-2-1, to George Washington in their opener on Monday and then defeated Ohio in round two, 4-2.
