Baseball Drops Series Opener At Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Central Michigan baseball team fell to Big Ten foe Iowa on Friday, dropping a 7-4 decision in the opener of a three-game nonconference series at the Hawkeyes' Duane Banks Field.
The Chippewas (9-9) and the Hawkeyes (11-8) will play a Saturday (3 p.m.) game before closing the series on Sunday (2 p.m.).
Iowa took a 3-0 lead on a second-inning three-run homer.
The Chippewas got their first run in the fifth on a Mario Camilletti bases-loaded walk, and then went ahead, 4-3, by scoring three runs in the sixth.
Robby Morgan had an RBI double and then Chris Monroe smacked a pinch-hit two-run double to put the Chippewas in front, 4-3.
Iowa got single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to tie the game and then take the lead. Both runs came on two-out RBI singles. The Hawkeyes added two insurance runs in the eighth. Both runs scored with two out.
CMU starter Jordan Patty surrendered four runs on four hits, struck out six, and walked two over 5 2/3 innings. Ryan Insco, Adam Mrakitsch, Michael Conte and Jake Jones pitched in relief. Insco (0-1) took the loss.
Jacob Henderson (1-0), the fourth of six Iowa pitchers, allowed one hit and struck out one in picking up the win.
