Matt Myers joined Matt Drinkall’s Central Michigan coaching staff in December 2024, as its Director of Internal Operations. Myers rejoins Drinkall as the duo has worked together at Kansas Wesleyan.
Myers joins the Chippewa football program after serving the past nine seasons on the Kansas Wesleyan coaching staff, his alma mater. Following six years as an assistant coach and after earning the 2021 NAIA Assistant Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association, Myers was named the 21st head football coach in the history of the Kansas Wesleyan program on December 2021. In two and a half years as head coach, Myers led the Coyotes to back-to-back 8-3 seasons and a combined 18-10 overall record.
In 2023, Myers led the Coyotes to an 8-3 overall record and had KCAC Bissell Division co-championship with a 4-1 record. The Coyotes were the lone Bissell Division team to post an over .500 record and the lone divisional team to post an over .500 record against the Kessinger Division (4-2). KWU ranked No. 4 in NAIA in scoring defense in 2022, allowing just 14.8 points per game. KWU also ranked first in the NAIA in total yards allowed (206.5 per game). A total of 15 student-athletes were named All-KCAC led by first team selections Ricardo Garcia and Josh King-Bradley. The Coyotes also had six Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes and six were named Academic All-KCAC.
In his first season as head coach, Myers led the Coyotes to an 8-3 overall record and a 7-3 record in the KCAC. The Coyotes recorded three shutouts during the season, the most in a single season since 2002. Senior punter Miguel Millan was named as a NAIA All-American by the AFCA and the NAIA Coaches. Six student-athletes were named Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes and 12 earned KCAC Scholar-Athletes accolades. KWU also had 19 All-KCAC honorees including six first-team selections.
Before being named head coach, Myers spent six seasons as an assistant coach with the Coyotes in a myriad of roles, most recently serving as associate head coach, defensive coordinator and strength and speed coach.
His connection with the Kansas Wesleyan football program extends more than a decade as Myers played for the Coyotes in four seasons: 2006 and from 2013-15. As a linebacker, he earned second-team honors in 2015. Following graduation, he joined the coaching staff and served in numerous roles, including offensive coordinator in 2019 during KWU’s run to the NAIA Football Championship Series quarterfinals.
As an assistant coach, Kansas Wesleyan posted a 61-11 overall record and a 44-7 record in the KCAC and helped guide the Coyotes to three KCAC championships (2018, 2019, 2021), and NAIA playoff appearances (2018, 2019, 2021).
A graduate of Southeast of Saline High School in Gypsum, Kansas, Myers earned his KWU degree in Sports Management in 2015. He is married to Sara, a graduate of Salina South High School and an optometrist at Salina Family Vision Care. They have three children, Madden, Henley, and Remi.
