MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Central Michigan men's and women's track and field teams will head to Ohio University's Goldsberry Track & Field Complex for the Mid-American Conference outdoor championships which begin on Thursday.

Chippewas hold the top time/distance in two events heading into the three-day event.

CMU senior Shawntoreah Turk enters with the top time, 53.92 seconds, in the women's 400-meter dash; while freshman Dylan Banagis has the top distance in the men's discus at 59.23 meters.

"Here is my expectation for the team, that they leave it all out on the track," CMU director of track and field Mark Guthrie said. "Individually whether they win or lose, first or eighth, or don't score, whether the team is up or down from indoors, the bottom line is they can walk away with good feelings about it."

Several other Chippewas enter the meet with times or distances that put them in the top five in their respective events.

On the women's side, CMU's Bridget Doherty is third in the 400 hurdles; Breanne Lesnar and Kelly Schubert are fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 5,000; Lesnar, Krista Parks and Schubert are third, fourth and sixth, respectively, in the 10,000; Devene Brown is third in the discus; and Turk, Bridget Doughty, Emma Fishnick and Ravyn Baxter comprise the 1,600 relay squad which enters the meet with the fifth-best time.

For the CMU men, Parker Scott and Nate Ghena enter the 400 hurdles and the 10,000 with the second-best times in those respective evens, while the Chippewas' Spencer Nousain is ranked third in the 10,000.

Ghena is also fifth in the 5,000, while CMU's 400 relay team - Malike Peacock, Brad Parsons, Curtis Mitchell and Nicholas Malliaras - also has the fifth-best time.

Cole Walderzak is third in the discus behind Banagis, and is also third in the hammer throw and fourth in the shot put. The Chippewas Kyle Smith is third in the javelin.
