The meet gets underway on Thursday and runs through Saturday. Each event features 48 participants and the top 12 finishers in each advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. June 6-9.
The Chippewa women finished fourth and their point total, 69, far exceeded the 26 they scored last year at the MAC Championships.The CMU men more than doubled their 2017 point total (42.5) and the 115 was the most they have scored in the MAC Championships since the 137 they recorded in 2012.
Nadia Williams finished second in the long jump with a leap of 6.10 meters and she qualified for the 100-meter final with an 11.75-second clocking in her preliminary race. Her time was third among the eight finals qualifiers.
CMU’s April Micheaux, a junior, is third after four events in the heptathlon. She amassed 3,115 points on Thursday. Patricia Ortega of Akron is first with 3,468.
