CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Central Michigan softball team collected 16 total hits in dropping two games at the South Florida Under Armour Invitational on Friday at the Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex.
CMU dropped a 6-5 decision to Wright State then fell to the host Bulls, 4-3.
The Chippewas (5-7) will be back in action on Sunday (9:30 a.m.) against the College of Charleston (10-6).
Wright State scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to overcome a 5-4 deficit and hand the Chippewas the loss.
Kayla Noch hit a two-run homer to lead CMU’s six-hit attack. Morgan Gardner tripled for the Chippewas and Shaidan Knapp doubled.
Taylor Weaver took the loss in relief of starter Samantha Howell. Weaver allowed two runs on one hit and struck out two over 2 2/3 innings. Howell surrendered four runs on five hits, walked three and fanned one over 3 1/3 innings.
South Florida scored four runs in its final three at-bats to overcome a 3-0 deficit and hand the Chippewas their second loss of the day.
Cloe Mallory (1-2) took the loss in relief of Hanna Warren. Warren allowed three runs on 10 hits over 4 2/3 innings. She struck out three and walked one. Mallory allowed a run on one hit and walked two.
Knapp hit her first career home run and Rachel Vieira added a two-run homer in the fourth inning to give CMU a 3-0 lead.
Vieira had three hits and Sara Hansen added two in leading CMU’s 10-hit attack.
