The Central Michigan gymnastics team will open Mid-American Conference competition on Saturday (6 p.m.) with a dual meet at Eastern Michigan.
LAST TIME OUT
The Chippewas won their season-opening dual with Illinois State on Sunday at McGuirk Arena, posting a sizzling 196.375 team score. That score was the third-highest in the nation on the season-opening weekend, and a CMU program record for a season-opening meet.
CMU swept all four events in its season-opening victory. Denelle Pedrick won the vault with a 9.875; Bryttany Kaplan captured the bars (9.850); Katy Clements won balance beam (9.875); and Macey Hilliker was first on floor exercise (9.925).
Clements, who placed second on both vault and floor exercise, was named the MAC Gymnast of the Week for her performance.
The Eagles are 0-1 after dropping their season-opener at Penn State. EMU posted a 192.900 team total. Penn State finished with 194.275.
Eastern’s Lacey Rubin (bars) and Emili Dobronics (floor) were event winners. Rubin was named the MAC Specialist of the Week.
Eastern Michigan is the two-time defending MAC champion.
The Chippewas return to McGuirk Arena on Saturday, Jan. 20, to face Western Michigan in a MAC dual.
