BERKELEY, Calif. - The Central Michigan gymnastics team fell to California in a nonconference meet on Friday at the Golden Bears' Haas Pavilion.
The Chippewas fell to the Bears, 196.925-193.525. CMU is 6-3. Cal improved to 4-4.
Kennedy Rae Johnson led the way for Central Michigan on the vault, winning the event with a career-high tying 9.775. CMU's Bryttany Kaplan and Katy Clements also each posted a 9.725.
Kaplan recorded a team-high 9.875 as CMU finished a 48.825 - its best score of the meet in the four events. Cal's Tori-Ann Williams and Nina Schank each scored 9.925 to tie for first place.
Clements led the Chippewas with a 9.9. Miranda Wieczorek tied her career-high with a 9.825. Cal's Sofie Seilnacht scored a 9.925 to win the event.
Clements had a 9.750 to lead CMU on the floor.
CMU is scheduled to partake in a nonconference quad meet at San Jose State on Sunday (5 p.m.). Air Force and Seattle Pacific will also participate in the meet.
