Senior Katy Clements needed a 9.900 to tie the meet, and instead put up a 9.925 – tying her career best in the event – to lift CMU to the dramatic victory.
CMU is 5-1, 3-0 MAC and is ranked 26th nationally with a 195.392 average. The Chippewas are ranked 21st on uneven bars, 29th balance beam, 27th on floor exercise and 34th on vault. The Chippewas’ best score this season was the 196.375 they posted in their season opener against Illinois State.
The Chippewas posted a 194.525 score in improving to 5-1. Illinois State (1-3) finished at 192.025. It was CMU’s second victory of the season over the Redbirds.
