LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. -- The Central Michigan golf team finished 1-1 on Monday on the opening day of the Mid-American Match Play Challenge at Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club.
The Chippewas are scheduled to play Eastern Michigan on Tuesday at 9 a.m. in a consolation-bracket match.
CMU, which was seeded 11th in the 12-team tournament, fell to No. 6 Bowling Green, 3-2, and then rebounded to beat No. 12 Fort Wayne, 3-2, on Monday.
CMU senior Natalie Johnson went 2-0 on the day. She opened with a 3-and-2 victory over Bowling Green's Nichole Cox, and then posted a 4-and-3 win over Monica Dorner of Fort Wayne.
The Chippewas also got victories against Fort Wayne from Bria Colosky and Kristen Wolfe. Colosky posted a 1-up victory over Jenna Kurosky, and Wolfe topped Abigail Carlsen, 4-and-3.
CMU's Danielle Sawyer and Jami Laude lost their respective matches against Fort Wayne. Sawyer fell 4-and-3 to Paige Bird, and Laude lost 1-up to Madison Chestnutt.
Laude, a freshman, picked up the Chippewas' other victory against Bowling Green as she defeated Erin Fahey, 3-and-1.
Against Bowling Green, Sawyer dropped a 6-and-5 decision to Sarah Kern; Wolfe lost, 3-and-1, to Jessica Madry; and Colosky dropped a 2-and-1 match to Sammi Blackburn.
