MUNCIE, Ind. – The Central Michigan field hockey team dropped its final game of the season, 1-0, in overtime on Friday to Ball State at the Ball State Field Hockey Complex.
The Chippewas finished the season 0-18. 0-6 MAC. Ball State is 5-11, 1-4.
“The girls played their hearts out,” CMU assistant coach Annie Hansbury said. “I’m so proud of each of them. They played with heart and pride. Unfortunately the ball just didn’t bounce our way.”
Both teams recorded eight shots during regulation and finished an even 9-9 in that category for the game. Eight of CMU shots were on goal; five of the Cardinals' were.
Carley Shannon scored just under five minutes into the extra sessions, giving the Cardinals the victory.
Lily Amadio made four saves in goal for the Central Michigan while Grace Chavez tallied six for Ball State.
“They applied a lot of concepts that we’ve been working on all season long,” Hansbury of her players. “Lily quarterbacked the defense once again this game. They stayed true to their game plan and played great defensively.”
Addy Marshall had three shots on goal for the Chippewas. Alex Gonda had two shots, one of which was on goal. Emily Barber, Callie Quinn, Georgina Minta and Cara Satre added one shot apiece.
