MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan men’s and women’s cross country teams have garnered Team All-Academic honors from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the 2017 season.

It marks the seventh consecutive year that the CMU women have garnered the honor, and the sixth consecutive year that the men have.

It is the 13th time in the last 14 years the the Chippewa women have been so honored.

Teams must record a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better to be eligible.

Central’s men’s team GPA of 3.43 was tied for the 28th of the 195 teams that earned the award. The CMU women maintained a 3.46 average for the year, which finished just outside the top 100 of the 228 teams recognized.

“An award like this shows the hard work and dedication these athletes put forth into being true scholar-athletes,” said CMU Director of Track Field/Cross Country Jenny Swieton. “As a coach, I am equally as proud of what they do in the classroom as I am proud of what they do on the course.”
