Six Chippewas Ranked By MAC Coaches

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Six Central Michigan wrestlers are ranked in their respective weight classes by the Mid-American Conference.

The rankings, released today, are based on voting by league coaches.    

CMU’s Justin Oliver (149 pounds) and Jordan Ellingwood (184) are both ranked first, while Mason Smith (141), Colin Heffernan (157) and CJ Brucki (174) are second, and Logan Parks (165) is fourth.

Ellingwood, Heffernan and Brucki are seniors; Oliver is a junior; and Smith are Parks are both sophomores.

In addition, the Chippewas were ranked second as a team behind five-time defending champion Missouri, which received 29 points. Points are based on the number of individuals ranked. The Tigers have a wrestler ranked in nine of the 10 weight classes, including five who are ranked No. 1.

The Chippewas received 18 points. The league will release rankings monthly throughout the season.

CMU’s annual Intrasquad Meet is scheduled for McGuirk Arena on Friday, Oct. 27 (7 p.m.). The Chippewas open the season with the Michigan State Open on Sunday, Nov. 5, and their first dual meet is slated for Nov. 17 at home against Michigan State.

The Chippewas are ranked 18th in WIN Magazine’s Preseason Tournament Power Index and Rankings. Individually, Oliver is seventh; Ellingwood, eighth; Heffernan, ninth; and Brucki, 10th.
