EUGENE, Ore. - Central Michigan's Kyle Smith finished ninth in his flight in the men's javelin Saturday at the NCAA Track & Field Championships at the University of Oregon.
Smith's best throw was 211 feet, 6 inches. The top eight throwers earn All-America honors, while those finishing ninth-16th earned second team All-America.
Smith, a senior from Leola, Pa., finished 17th overall. Sam Crouser of Oregon won the event with a throw of 252-7. Ivan Hartung of Kansas State was 16th at 211-10, just 4 inches better than Smith.
