MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Central Michigan men's basketball team will play host to Ohio on Tuesday, Jan. 2, in its Mid-American Conference opener.
The league released the 2018 schedule today, Thursday. Four of the Chippewas' first six MAC games are on the road, beginning on Saturday, Jan. 6, with a game at defending MAC Tournament-champion Kent State, and including a visit to defending MAC West co-champion Ball State on Tuesday, Jan. 16.
In the Chippewas' one and only meeting with defending-East champion Akron is also on the road (Saturday, Feb. 10).
CMU's annual home-and-home meetings with rival Western Michigan are slated for Tuesday, Feb. 20, in Kalamazoo, and in the regular-season finale on Friday, March, 2, at McGuirk Arena. The Broncos are the defending MAC West co-champions.
The Chippewas play host to Division II Northwood in an exhibition game on Sunday, Nov. 5, and then entertain NAIA Siena Heights in the opener on Friday, Nov. 10.
CMU visits Michigan on Monday, Nov. 13, in the first meeting between the two schools since the 2012-13 season. The Chippewas are also slated to partake in the Great Alaskan Shootout over the Thanksgiving weekend.
The Chippewas play a 17-game home schedule. Eleven of those games will be played on a Friday, a Saturday or a Sunday including three against MAC foes Toledo (Jan. 13), Kent State (Jan. 27) and Eastern Michigan (Feb. 7).
On three Saturdays - Jan. 13, Jan. 27 and Feb. 17 - the Chippewa women and men will play a McGuirk Arena doubleheader, with the women tipping off at 1 p.m. followed by the men at 4:30 p.m.
"The 17 home games, with nearly a dozen of them in weekends, provide a great opportunity for our fans to see what promises to be an exciting team," said Keno Davis, who is entering his sixth year as the Chippewas' coach.
