MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Central Michigan baseball team will open the 2018 season with a trip to Brownsville, Texas, the first of three trips to begin the 55-game regular-season campaign.
The Chippewas will play two games each against Texas Rio Grande Valley and Stephen F. Austin in Brownsville, and then will head to Albuquerque, N.M. for a four-game series with New Mexico.
CMU is slated to spend Spring Break in Florida, where it will play in the Westin Lake Mary Stetson Invitational against the host Hatters, Purdue and Virginia Tech. They will also meet Virginia Tech and Seton Hall in single games, and the trip concludes with a three-game set against South Florida.
CMU finished 31-28 last season including 16-8 in Mid-American Conference play. They captured the MAC West title.
CMU's home opener is slated for March 13 against Lawrence Tech, and the Chippewas are slated to entertain Northwestern in a three-game series on Friday and Saturday, March 16-17.
The Chippewas' Mid-American Conference-opening weekend is March 23-25 at Northern Illinois. CMU's first home MAC series is set for April 6-8 against Kent State.
The Chippewas will also play MAC foes Toledo, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan and Ohio in home weekend series. In addition to a visit to Northern Illinois, CMU is slated to go on the road for MAC series with Miami (Ohio), Western Michigan and Ball State.
CMU's annual Clash at Comerica is slated for April 25 at Comerica Park in Detroit. The opponent is Oakland, and it is the third of three meetings between the schools scheduled in 2018.
Among the other highlights of the CMU schedule are home-and-home two-game series with both Michigan State and Michigan.
The MAC Tournament returns to Sprenger Stadium in Avon, Ohio, and is scheduled to run from May 23-27.
