MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Chippewa Athletic Fund welcomes Tara Bergeron and Courtney Silverthorn as assistant directors.

Bergeron comes to Central Michigan University from the Great Lakes Loons, the Midland, Mich.-based Class A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Silverthorn has worked with the CAF for two years as a student assistant.

"Tara and Courtney both have a passion for CMU and Chippewa athletics," said Craig Willey, Senior Associate Athletic Director/External Operations. "They're Chippewas and we're excited to have them as a part of our team." Bergeron earned her master's degree in business administration from CMU and worked with the Loons for three years, most recently as the Director of Group Sales.

She completed a graduate certificate of sports business at New York University, and prior to that worked as an intern in the Rutgers University athletic department.

Bergeron was a varsity cheerleader at CMU during her undergraduate days, and was a member of a squad that ranked 10th in the nation during her junior year.

"Tara has a tremendous amount of experience with customer relations and sales," Willey said. "She has a proven track record of success."

Silverthorn graduated from CMU with a bachelor of science degree in sport management after earning an associate degree in criminal justice from Jackson (Mich.) College, where she was a member of the softball team.

"Courtney brings a familiar face and a familiar voice to our supporters," Willey said. "She's been a member of our team for two years and she knows our donor base, she knows our operation and she brings consistency, experience, a great attitude, and an eagerness to serve our members."

Both women, Willey said, are perfect fits in the long-range philanthropic aspirations of CAF and the university as a whole.

"Both are deeply committed to delivering first-class service to our 2,500-plus donors".

Among Bergeron's primary responsibilities will be cultivating relationships with the Chippewa coaching staff and alumni, former student-athletes and supporters in an effort to strengthen annual fund-raising.  Silverthorn, meanwhile, will focus on donor events and membership services.

Bergeron and Silverthorn replace former director Brian Brunner and former assistant director Alysha Anders.  Brunner left in June to become an Assistant Athletic Director at South Dakota State University; Anders accepted a position with Bolger and Battle, a marketing firm in Midland.

"Brian and Alysha were major assets to CAF, the university, and the community, and we wish them nothing but the best in their endeavors going forward," Willey said. "We look ahead to a bright future with Tara and Courtney. Both have a passion for CMU athletics and for building relationships with our friends and supporters."
