Chippewas release 2023-24 schedule
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan wrestling team is set to open the 2023-24 season with its annual Maroon & Gold Intrasquad dual at McGuirk Arena on Monday, Oct. 30 (7 p.m.).
The Chippewas welcome Oklahoma to McGuirk Arena for a nonconference dual on Nov. 9, kicking off a schedule comprising five tournaments and 16 dual meets.
CMU finished 6-9 overall, 5-1 in the Mid-American Conference last season. The Chippewas won their second consecutive MAC West title a year ago and then finished second in the 13-team MAC Championships.
CMU entertains Edinboro in its MAC-opening dual on Sunday, Jan. 21. The Chippewas will also face Ohio and Buffalo in MAC duals at home and will go on the road for conference duals with Northern Illinois, SIUE, Kent State and Clarion.
The Chippewas close the regular season with a nonconference home dual against Michigan. They wrestle at Michigan State, Indiana and Illinois in nonleague duals. They will also wrestle North Carolina in a nonleague dual at Illinois.
CMU is scheduled to compete in the Michigan State Open, the Lehigh-hosted Sheridan Invitational, the Northwestern-hosted Midlands Championships, and the third annual Chippewa Challenge, hosted this season by Cal State Bakersfield.
The Chippewa Challenge includes three programs coached by former CMU wrestlers, all of whom wrestled at CMU for legendary coach Tom Borrelli, who is now in his 33rd season in charge of the program. Those programs are coached by Jason Borrelli (American), Luke Smith (Cal State Bakersfield), and Scotti Sentes (Campbell).
The MAC Championships are scheduled for March 8-9 at Kent State and the NCAA Championships are set for March 21-23 T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Mo.
