MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Central Michigan won 13 of 16 events on Saturday as the Chippewas celebrated Senior Day at the Jack Skoog Open, their lone home meet of the season, at the Jack Skoog Indoor Track.
Â
Lake Superior State, Olivet, and Alma also competed. No team scores were kept.
Â
"We had a really great day," CMU Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Jenny Swieton said. "I think across the board in all event areas, we had somebody who had a personal record. It was just a lot of fun."Â
Â
CMU opened the day with a win in the distance medley relay with a time of 13:29.44. Lilly Evans, Amelia Gouin, Shannon Billette and Ashlyn Nagel comprised the squad.Â
Â
Emily Paupore, a redshirt sophomore, followed with a win in the mile run with a time of 5:01.54.
Â
"Papuore's mile time was huge because she has never ran that fast this early in the season," Swieton said.
Â
The Chippewas swept the event, claiming all eight spots as Anya Turner, Maija Rettelle, Natalie Newcombe, Jelena Prescott, Jessie Gibbins, Maddy Boyd, and Libby Munderloh finished second-eighth, respectively.
Â
Peyton Korytkowski had a big day for Chippewas, capturing first place in both the 60-meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash. She also placed third in the 60-meter dash behind teammate Reghan Draper, who was second.
Â
Hayley Manners (fourth), Kaitlynn Rush (fifth), Jericha Petrella (sixth), and Sarah Daniel (seventh)Â also placed for the Chippewas.
Â
CMU also got victories from Emma Fountain, 600-meter run; Alexis Gourrier, 800-meter run; Lauren Beckmann, 3,000-meter run; Alyssa Vandegriff, high jump; Sarah Griffin, pole vault; Hayley Manners, long jump; Angelina Horn, triple jump; and Mohogany Wells, weight throw.
Â
"We are just going to keep working hard," Swieton said. "I think the hard work is paying off and we are doing a very good job at performing well even when we are a little fatigued.
Â
"We must keep riding that line, making sure they are working hard enough but not so hard that they can't compete on race day."
Â
The Chippewa honored 16 student-athletes during a senior day ceremony, celebrating individual accomplishments and memories.
Â
The Chippewas are back in action at the SVSU Jets Pizza Invitational on Friday, Jan. 27 at University Center.
