Patience Pays As CMU Sweeps MAC Baseball Twinbill

Mario Camilletti had five hits including a home run and the Central Michigan baseball team pounded out 26 hits including 10 for extra bases in sweeping a Mid-American Conference doubleheader from Eastern Michigan, 10-4 and 7-2, on Saturday at the Eagles' Oestrike Stadium.
The twinbill started at 1 p.m. and finished just before 11 p.m. The culprit? A near four-hour lightning delay midway through the opener.
The Chippewas improved to 35-15, 27-6 and moved into a first-place tie with Ball State.
The Cardinals are also 27-6 after dropping a 5-3 decision to Ohio in the opener of a twinbill on Saturday. Game two was halted in the fifth inning with the Cardinals leading, 13-6. It was scheduled to resume at 10 a.m. Sunday.
The Chippewas and Eastern close their four-game series at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Camilletti had four hits including a two-run homer that highlighted a four-run fourth inning in the opener. It was Camilletti's fourth homer of the season.
Jakob Marsee, Danny Wuestenfeld, Drew Lechnir and Robby Morgan finished with two hits apiece as the Chippewas finished with 14 hits in game one.
That was more than enough for starter Andrew Taylor (8-3), who struck out six, walked two and surrendered four runs on five hits for the win.
Ryan Palmblad and Ben Vitas pitched in relief.
Wuestenfeld hit a two-run homer and Drew Stengren delivered a two-out, two-run single to highlight a five-run third inning in the nightcap.
Marsee finished with three hits, while Aidan Shepardson, Wuestenfeld and Justin Simpson had two each.
Logan Buczkowski started and went three innings for CMU. Ryan Insco pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief and Adam Mrakitsch went the final 4 1/3 frames, striking out six. The trio combined to allow seven hits and fan 10.
Insco (2-1) picked up the victory and Mrakitsch earned his first career save.
