Baseball Drops Series Finale At Ball State

CMU stands in second place in MAC
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning on Sunday for a 4-3 victory over Central Michigan in the finale of a four-game Mid-American Conference baseball series at the Cardinals' First Merchants Ballpark Complex.
The win gave the Cardinals a sweep of the showdown series between the league's top two programs as they improved to 23-4 in league play. The Chippewas are 21-5 and are in second place.
CMU, 28-14, plays host to Western Michigan in a four-game series at Theunissen Stadium beginning on Friday, May 6 (3 p.m.). Ball State is 29-14.
Sunday's win marked Ball State's second walk-off victory in the series after its 6-4 victory in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. The Cardinals won Saturday's seven-inning nightcap, 10-7, with four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Sunday's game had all the drama as did Saturday's games as the Chippewas scored two runs in the top of the eighth to tie it 3-3. Mario Camilletti doubled in the first run of the inning and then Justin Simpson singled in the tying run.
Danny Wuestenfeld hit his team-leading sixth home run in the fifth inning to give the Chippewas a 1-0 lead.
Jake Jones (4-2) worked the final 2 1/3 innings and took the loss. He struck out two and walked two. Freshman Adam Mrakitsch started for CMU and allowed one run on four hits, struck out four and walked two over six frames.
