Baseball Falls In Weekend Finale

The Chippewas (3-7) dropped all three games on the weekend, two to the River Hawks and one to the host Demon Deacons. CMU is scheduled to play at North Carolina A&T on Tuesday, March 8 (4 p.m.). The Aggies are 6-6 after sweeping Holy Cross in a three-game home series over the weekend.

"The guys are probably glad we play again in two days," CMU coach Jordan Bischel said. "Obviously we aren't happy with the results this weekend, so it's nice that we get back out there in two days and get another chance to compete and try to start to get on the right track."

The River Hawks roughed up CMU starter Garrett Navarra (0-2), who allowed eight runs on nine hits before being relieved in the fourth inning. Ryan Insco, Jake Jones and Clayton Brock pitched in relief. UMass Lowell scored at least one run in every inning but the seventh.

"As a whole, we've got to do a better job at keeping the ball down and in the park," Bischel said. "We've got a lot of work to do, but it's early in the season. (The pitchers) have got to stick to it and it'll turn if they keep working at it."

Colton Coca hit a two-run homer for CMU, which collected 10 hits. It was his first homer of the season.

Mario Camilletti led the Chippewas with three hits and two RBI, while Jakob Marsee and Aidan Shepardson had two hits apiece.
