MOUNT PLEASANT — Central Michigan softball outfielder Christina Novak (Rockford, Mich./Rockford HS) was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week on Tuesday.

The junior batted .368 (7-for-19) with three home runs and eight RBI in the Troy Cox Classic hosted by New Mexico State last weekend. She also doubled twice as five of her seven hits went for extra bases. The three homers she clubbed in the tournament surpass her 2008 season total of two. She is one home run shy of moving into a 10th-place tie on the school’s career list. Her performance earned her a spot on the all-tournament team.

This is the first time in Novak’s career that she has earned the weekly MAC award.

The Chippewas are off for two weeks, returning to the diamond on March 6 when they face Columbia in the first game of the Miken Classic hosted by Florida Atlantic University.
