CMU’s captains for the Toledo game were sophomore quarterback Dan
LeFevour, senior offensive lineman Eric Tunney and senior linebacker
Red Keith.
Andrew Aguila converted his first career field goal attempt, a 35-yarder that capped CMU’s opening drive.
Dan LeFevour rushed for two touchdowns Saturday night, his third
career game with multiple rushing touchdowns. He ran for two touchdowns
against both Boston College and Ball State in 2006.
Dan LeFevour’s 6-yard touchdown pass to Antonio Brown was the 28th
touchdown pass of his career, moving him into sole possession of sixth
place on CMU’s career touchdown pass list. The touchdown was the first
of Brown’s career.
Barron Miles’ fumble recovery that set up LeFevour’s scoring toss to
Brown in the third quarter was the first fumble recovery of his career.
Fourteen true or redshirt freshmen played for the Chippewas against
Toledo. Of the 50 players who saw action against the Rockets, 30 were
freshmen or sophomores.
The 83 points CMU and Toledo combined to score Saturday night were
the most in a game at Kelly/Shorts Stadium since a 42-41 CMU win over
Eastern Kentucky in 2003.
Ontario Sneed finished with 168 yards on 29 carries. It marked the eighth time in his career he rushed for at least 100 yards.
Dan LeFevour moved into the top 10 on the career total yardage list
with his peformance tonight. He put up 295 total yards (244 passing, 51
rushing) to raise his career total to 4,045 yards, moving him into
ninth place all-time, passing Walt Hodges (3,886). LeFevour is within
150 yards of the next two men on the list, Gary Hoogeboom (eighth,
4,167) and Curtis Adams (seventh, 4,168).
Red Keith made 15 tackles, one shy of his career high, and moved up
to eighth on the CMU career tackles list. He now has 346 career tackles.
CMU's win was the third straight for the Chippewas over Toledo. It's
CMU's first three-game winning streak against its MAC West rivals since
1992-94. Between those CMU streaks, Toledo won 10 consecutive matchups
with CMU from 1995-2004.
The Chippewas won their Mid-American Conference opener for the
fourth year in a row - 2004 vs. Kent State, 24-21; 2005 at Miami,
38-37; 2006 vs. Akron, 24-21; 2007 vs. Toledo, 52-31.
Head coach Butch Jones picked up his first career victory.
CMU has now won nine straight games against MAC opponents from the state of Ohio.
