MOUNT PLEASANT – Central Michigan senior 165-pounder Trevor Stewart
(Canton, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central HS) has been named Mid-American
Conference Wrestler of the Week.
He shared the honor with Kent State’s Dustin Kilgore.
Stewart went a perfect 4-0 to help lead CMU to the Virginia Duals title
last weekend. Stewart, ranked 10th nationally entering the tournament,
posted an 11-4 decision over Liberty’s Brad Clark, a 4-2 decision over
Old Dominion’s Chris Brown, a 5-3 decision over Oklahoma State’s No.
12-ranked Brandon Mason, and a 9-2 decision over Lehigh’s No. 16-ranked
Mike Galante.
Stewart leads the Chippewas in victories this season. He is 16-4 overall.
Stewart is the fourth different Chippewa to earn the conference’s
weekly honor this season. This is the second time in his career he has
been named MAC Wrestler of the Week.
CMU (9-1 overall), ranked sixth in this week’s NWCA/InterMat top 25, is
on the road for a pair of duals this weekend. The Chippewas visit
Bloomsburg at 2 p.m. Saturday and No. 24 Pittsburgh at 2 p.m. Sunday.
