Mount Pleasant, Mich - Back for its second straight year the Central Michigan Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will put on the CHIPYS, which will be hosted by baseball player Sam Russell.

Created last year by Russell and Reid Rooney the CHIPYS, emulate the popular ESPYS award show on ESPN. It is a night to celebrate the great accomplishments by Central Michigan athletic programs over the past year.

The black tie event will take place in Warriner Hall's Plachta Auditorium on Sept. 18. Tickets are available for $3 through Ticket Central or $5 at the door the night of the event, with all the proceeds going to the V Foundation for Cancer Research, which is also the beneficiary of the ESPYS.

The event, endorsed by SAAC along with the Special Olympics, the Detroit Tigers, and the Detroit Red Wings, is family friendly and open to the public. The maroon carpet show starts at 6 p.m. with the awards show to follow at 7 p.m.

The show will include skits, videos, and many awards such as Best Team, Breakthrough Athlete, Coach of the Year, and Best Championship Performance. Both the Tigers and Red Wings have donated an autographed item that will be up for auction. The CMU Bookstore has also donated $100 worth of gift cards that will be given away at the show.

2002 NFL Draft 18th overall draft pick T.J. Duckett will be attending the event. Duckett is a big supporter of the Special Olympics, and will be presenting an award.

With the event last year raising over $2,000, Russell and Rooney were contacted by longtime Jimmy V supporter, Dick Vitale who gave his trademark seal of approval with a "Great Idea Baby!"

Fans can help select the winners of the awards by voting for their favorite student-athletes, teams and moments via an online survey.
