CMU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has partnered with the Isabella County adopt-a-family program for more than 10 years.

Mount Pleasant – Central Michigan student-athletes are assisting the United Way of Isabella County in their adopt-a-family program this holiday season.

Over the past three weeks, junior baseball player Sam Russell and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Vice President Raeanne Lohner have been collecting money from each team’s representative to put toward their selected family.

The athletes have raised $1,000 and are still collecting money. In the coming weeks, SAAC members will go shopping for the family in order to make this holiday possible. The gifts will be delivered on Dec. 8.

“I think adopt-a-family is a great program because it gives us CMU student-athletes an opportunity to help those who are in need during the holiday season,” Russell said. “As student-athletes, we are so blessed to be where we are at and sometimes we forget that we can make a difference.”

“It’s important to reflect this time of year on helping those in need. There are families in our community that struggle through this season and we’re just happy we can do our part in helping them,” said Assistant Director of Academic Services Kelly Higgins.

The Chippewa student-athletes have been participating in adopt-a-family and helping others in the community for over a decade.
