Central Michigan junior Cayleigh Immelman scored the game-winning goal to help the Chippewas defeat Ball State Saturday, 1-0.
CMU Slides Past Ball State, 1-0

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Central Michigan field hockey team started MAC play on Saturday by defeating Ball State 1-0. 

Chippewa forward Cayleigh Immelman scored her second goal of the season by accepting a pass by midfielder Kaysie Gregory to put CMU (4-6) up 1-0 early in the second half. 

The Cardinals (5-5) and Chippewas battled offensively and defensively throughout the entire game. Ball State contributed three shots on goal and goalkeeper Shelby Henley had five saves for the Cardinals.

Simone Lazar, Jordyn Bregnosz, Abby Roth and Anne Middeldorp were power houses for the Maroon and Gold defense each assisting goalkeeper Sadie Reynolds on getting her second shutout of the season. 

The Chippewas will be back in action on Saturday versus MAC competitor Kent State at 12 p.m. and again on Sunday in a non-conference match versus Michigan at 1 p.m.
