Mount Pleasant, Mich. - Senior Kara Dornbos was named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District V first team on Thursday, May 2. This is the second time in Dornbos’ career she has been awarded the honor.
Capital One All-District teams are selected by sports the College Sports Information Directors of America. Athletes are nominated based on their performance on the field and in the classroom. Academic All-District team members advance to voting for Academic All-American honors.
As a health fitness major, Dornbos has maintained a 3.98 GPA over her collegiate career, and will graduate this May.
Dornbos has made a team-high 23 appearances and 21 starts for Central Michigan this season. She has an ERA of 2.62 and has pitched five shutouts in her senior year.
Dornbos has established herself in the Chippewa record books, holding the single-season record with 36 appearances as a junior. She ranks in the top-ten in several career categories including: saves (5), complete games (63), shutouts (20), innings pitched (582.1) and strikeouts (332).
Dornbos was a Senior CLASS Award candidate, finishing in the top-30 of voting, and has been named Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Week twice this season.
Fellow MAC competitors Lauren Gellerman of Ohio and Jessacca Gironda of Kent State also were named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District V first team.
