Eight Chippewas Named Academic All-MAC
MOUNT PLEASANT - Eight members of Central Michigan's track and field program have earned Academic All-Mid-American Conference honors for the 2012 outdoor season.

Five men—David Ashcraft, Josh Kettlewell, Ethan Lievense, Cory Noeker and Kyle Smith—and three women—Holly Anderson, Raeanne Lohner and Maddie Ribant—were recognized by the conference.

Lohner is a three-time member of the Academic All-MAC squad for the outdoor season. Ashcraft earns his second outdoor academic all-conference honor, while each of the other six Chippewas is being recognized for the first time.

Ashcraft and Noeker both scored in two events at the MAC Outdoor Championships. Ashcraft took third in the 400m and fourth in the 4x400m relay, while Noeker was runner-up in the 110m hurdles and eighth in the 400m hurdles.

Kettlewell was third in the decathlon at the conference championship meet, scoring a personal-best 6,881 points. He qualified for the NCAA East Region Prelims in the pole vault, where he finished 27th with a mark of 16-05.5. Lievense, who redshirted in 2011, took third in the 3000m steeplechase at the MAC Outdoor Championships with a time of 9:16.85, while Smith was fourth in the javelin at the conference championship meet.

Anderson, who broke the school record in the 10,000m run with a time of 34:45.7 early in the 2012 season, scored in two events at the MAC Championships, taking fifth in the 10,000m and sixth in the 5,000m. She qualified for the NCAA East Region Prelims in the 10,000m.

Lohner placed seventh in the 5,000m at the conference championship meet, while Ribant was seventh in the 3,000m steeplechase.

Including the indoor track and field and cross country seasons, CMU's combined program has earned 18 Academic All-MAC honors during the 2011-12 academic year. Anderson and Lohner both earned Academic All-MAC recognition for each of the three seasons.

The Academic All-MAC award is for student-athletes who compete in at least 50 percent of a season's competitions and carry at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average. First-year students and transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible. The Academic All-MAC teams are selected by a vote of the conference's Faculty Athletics Representatives.
