All 16 Programs Surpass NCAA APR Benchmark
MOUNT PLEASANT - Each of Central Michigan University's 16 intercollegiate varsity sport programs has scored 940 or higher in the most recent NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) report.

The NCAA released its annual APR report Wednesday, with each of CMU's programs scoring well above the current 925 minimum needed to avoid penalty; that minimum benchmark score will rise to 930 following the 2012-13 academic year.

Data for the current APR report includes the academic years of 2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11.

"We are very proud of the fact that again every one of our teams scored above the minimum threshold set by the NCAA," said CMU Athletics Director Dave Heeke. "We take great pride and place a high emphasis on our tradition of academic excellence. Our student-athletes, coaches and academic staff have worked very hard and will continue to work hard to maintain that culture."

The women's cross country program (995) and softball program (991) posted CMU's top two overall scores. The outdoor track and field program (976) was the top scoring CMU men's program.

Overall, eight of CMU's programs posted higher scores than a year ago, including five (baseball, men's basketball, men's indoor track and field, men's outdoor track and field, softball) that increased by 10 or more points from last year's report. The 2012 report marks the third time in the last four years that each of CMU's 16 programs scored above the 925 benchmark.

Two programs—women's cross country and softball—posted a perfect score of 1,000 for the 2010-11 academic year. It marked the second straight perfect score for the softball program.

The APR is calculated by allocating points for academic eligibility and retention of student-athletes on athletic scholarships. A team’s APR score is the total points earned by the team at a given time divided by the total points possible and multiplied by 1,000.
