MOUNT PLEASANT - Senior Holly Anderson of the women's track and field program has been named this week's female Mid-American Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week.

This marks the second-straight week in which a female student-athlete from CMU has earned the award as Anderson joins last week's recipient, Brittany Petzold of the gymnastics program.

Anderson broke the 25-year-old indoor 5,000m record in her season debut Friday at the Meyo Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind., crossing the finish line in 16:49.93, eclipsing the previous record of 17:01.3 set in 1987 by Chris Cooper. Her performance Friday replaces a previous career best of 17:14.84 set during the 011 season and is the first sub-17:00 5,000m run in CMU indoor track and field history.

A native of Fruitport, Mich., Anderson boasts a 3.54 grade point average as a health fitness major.
