MOUNT PLEASANT — Sophomore gymnast Brittany Petzold has been named the female Mid-American Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week.

Petzold put together the best all-around performance of her career Sunday, matching or beating season bests in every event to score a 39.300. She set new season highs on vault (9.825), beam (9.750) and floor (9.875) and matched her season-best score on uneven bars (9.850) to post the first 39-plus of the season in the MAC. The sophomore's 9.875 on the floor also set a career-high while her 9.825 on vault matched her career-high set a year ago. All together, Petzold racked up five first place finishes over the weekend, taking the vault and uneven bars Friday night at Eastern Michigan to help the Chippewas post their 25th-straight MAC victory and the uneven bars, floor and all-around Sunday versus Texas Woman's University.

A native of Shelby Township, Mich., Petzold sports a 3.89 GPA.

She becomes the second CMU student athlete to be named MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week during the 2011-12 academic year, joining junior Bailey Brandon of the soccer program.
