Two Women's XC Runners Named to Academic All-MAC Team

MOUNT PLEASANT – Two student-athletes from the Central Michigan University women's cross country team were named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, the conference announced Monday.

Seniors Raeanne Lohner (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids HS) and Holly Anderson (Fruitport, Mich./Fruitport HS) were both named to the team, and CMU's two runners on the team was the second-most of any team in the MAC. Eastern Michigan placed three on the team, and Ball State also placed two.

Lohner is no stranger to inclusion on the Academic All-MAC team; the Grand Rapids native is a member of the team for the third consecutive cross country season season and was honorable mention in 2008. Lohner, an English major, has earned a 3.88 grade point average since entering CMU and has also earned Academic All-MAC honors in indoor track (2011, '10, honorable mention in '09) and outdoor track (2010, '09).

She was the top finisher for the Chippewas at the 6K NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships with a 32nd place result in a season-best 21:25.8, and finished third in the 5K Gold Division race at the Notre Dame Invitational with a career-best 17:50. The senior competed in all but one race for the Chippewas this season.

Anderson is also accustomed to membership on the Academic All-MAC team, as this marks her second consecutive cross country she has earned the distinction. Anderson has maintained a 3.59 cumulative GPA as a health fitness major.

The Fruitport native earned second-team All-MAC honors after finishing 11th at the MAC Championships, and was named the MAC Runner of the Week on Sept. 20 after a 10th place finish in a career-best 21:11 at the 6K Spartan Invitational. She also finished eight in a career-best 18:02 at the 5K Notre Dame Invitational Gold Division race. She competed in all but one meet for the Chippewas this season.

A total of 30 student-athletes (16 women and 14 men) were named to the 2011 Academic All-MAC team. In order to be eligible for the team, student-athletes must have maintained at least a 3.2 GPA and participated in at least half of the team's competitions during the season.  The team is voted on by the league's Faculty Athletics Representatives.
