MOUNT PLEASANT - Gymnast Kristin Teubner (Denver, Colo./Grandview HS) has been named the 2011 recipient Central Michigan's Dick Enberg Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award.

The award is presented annually to a junior student-athlete who excels at the highest levels both athletically and academically. Teubner is the fifth recipient in the award's history, following Wynn Michalak (wrestling, 2007), Tracy Kaatz (softball, 2008), Greg Pilling (track and field, 2009) and Shay Mannino (soccer, 2010).

Teubner will be recognized at Kelly/Shorts Stadium during CMU's Oct. 15 homecoming football game versus Eastern Michigan.

In 2011, Teubner led Central Michigan to a first Mid-American Conference regular season title and second-straight MAC Championship. She was named MAC Co-Gymnast of the Year and won three events at the MAC Championships, including the balance beam, floor exercise and all-around, tallying career highs on beam and in the all-around. Teubner was named the MAC Gymnast of the Week twice, as 16 of her 17 first-place finishes came in conference action in 2011.

A health fitness major, Teubner boasts a 3.70 grade point average, a mark that helped the Chippewas post the ninth best GPA in the nation. Teubner was named an Academic All-MAC selection and Scholar-Athlete by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women for the second-straight year.

Enberg, a 1957 CMU graduate and winner of 14 Emmy Awards, is known for his work as a sports broadcaster with CBS and NBC. He has covered the Olympics, Super Bowl, Rose Bowl, World Series, U.S. Open, NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament and Wimbledon, among other major sporting events. He has served as the national spokesman for the COSIDA Academic All-America program since 1985.

The Dick Enberg Academic Center in CMU's Indoor Athletic Complex is named in his honor. CMU also presents a Dick Enberg Team Leadership Award annually. The baseball and soccer programs were the 2011 recipients of the award.
