MOUNT PLEASANT — Three members of the Central Michigan softball team have been named to the 2011 Academic All-Mid-American Conference team, the league announced Wednesday.

The three selections is the most by the Chippewas since three players were named to the team in 2007.

Junior Molly Coldren and sophomores Macy Merchant and Kara Dornbos each earned the honor for the first time in their careers. Merchant and Dornbos both were eligible for the award for the first time in 2011.

Coldren (West Bloomfield, Mich./Notre Dame HS) sports a 3.53 grade-point average as a Language Arts major. The junior also earned first-team All-MAC and MAC All-Tournament team honors following the 2011 campaign, while garnering Capitol One Academic All-District IV third team honors.

Dornbos (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville Christian HS) was one of six players on the Academic All-MAC team with a perfect 4.0 GPA. A Health Fitness major, Dornbos was named to the Capitol One Academic All-District IV first team earlier this year, while also earning second-team All-MAC honors.

Merchant (Wayland, Mich./Wayland HS) rounded out the selections for the Chippewas, earning the award in her first year of eligibility. A Special Education major with a 3.64 GPA, Merchant also earned second-team All-MAC honors in 2011, her first full season as a starter.

Joining CMU's three Academic All-MAC selections was Summer Knoop, who earned honorable mention honors. Knoop (Reed City, Mich./Reed City HS) boasts a near perfect 3.95 GPA as a Hospitality Services major. The sophomore was also named to the Capitol One Academic All-District IV third-team in 2011.
