Dornbos Selected as 2013 Senior CLASS Award Candidate

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.- Senior pitcher Kara Dornbos has been selected as a candidate for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award. Dornbos has made her mark in the record books at Central Michigan for her play on the field, and has excelled in the classroom and in the community.

Dornbos joins 29 other elite players across the country as candidates for the award. A national media committee will cut down the list of 30 to 10 in late March.

The Senior CLASS award recognizes NCAA Division I student-athletes that have notable achievements in the areas of community involvement, classroom, character and competition. Dornbos has been a standout for the Chippewas over her four years in all areas of the award.

“Kara is quality in every aspect,” said Coach Margo Jonker. “She leads by example and is a great student. Kara is a treasure to have on the team. She is a great person, trustworthy, mature, fun, competitive, driven, and is a player’s player and a coach’s player.”

Dornbos ranks in the top 10 in program history in innings pitched (464.2), shutouts (16), and appearances (92). She holds the single season record for appearances with 36, set last spring.

As a health fitness major, Dornbos has earned a 3.98 GPA. She was named to the 2011 and 2012 All-Academic Mid-American Conference teams, and received CoSida Academic All-District IV First Team honors in 2011. Fifteen of the candidates, including Dornbos, have combined for a cumulative GPA of over 3.5.

The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2013 NCAA Women’s College World Series® in Oklahoma City May 30 through June 5.
