Chippewas Drop Two Against UNLV

LAS VEGAS, Nev.The Chippewas dropped a pair to UNLV Saturday afternoon at Wilson Stadium, despite an eight-run inning in the second game of the doubleheader.

UNLV (3-0) came out swinging in the third inning taking an early 3-0 lead over CMU. The Rebels went on to score two more runs in the sixth and seventh inning extending its lead to 5-0.

Central Michigan (0-3) struggled offensively, failing to score until the eighth inning when junior Nick Regnier singled up the middle to bring in teammates Alex Borglin and Adam Collins to pull the Chippewas within three, trailing 5-2.

Neither team would score again and the Rebels claimed its first victory on the day.

In the second game of the double header CMU found themselves down 7-0 at the end of the sixth inning.

The momentum swung in the Chippewas’ favor in the top of the seventh inning, as the Maroon and Gold scored eight runs to take the lead, 8-7.

The Chippewas’ rally started when senior Noel Santos scored on a Rebels’ fielding error. Sophomore Dylan Goodwin scored the second run of the eight-run rally after teammate Nick Regnier singled to the shortstop. The momentum continued when Borglin scored an unearned run and sophomore Logan Regnier was awarded a RBI after being walked with the bases loaded.

Nick Regnier went on to score on a wild pitch, while sophomore Neal Jacobs singled up the middle bringing in Logan Regnier and junior Tyler Huntey. Santos' sacrifice bunt to the pitcher brought in Collins to cap off the eight run inning.

UNLV answered back in the bottom of the seventh scoring four more runs to take the 11-8 lead and eventually the win over the Chippewas.

Central Michigan will look to avoid the weekend sweep tomorrow at 4:05 p.m.
