Freese Announces 2014 Field Hockey Recruiting Class

Mount Pleasant, Mich. - Central Michigan University field hockey head coach Cristy Freese announced the signing of eight student-athletes to letters of intent for the fall on National Signing Day.

The Chippewas received commitments from Kayla McClure (Mohnton, Pa./Twin Valley), Giovanna Fasanello (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence Central), Lily Amadio (Shavertown, Pa./Dallas), Addison Marshall (Blooming Glen, Pa./Pennridge), Harriet Aburn (Wellington, New Zealand/Samuel Mardsen Collegiate School), Alexandra Gonda (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West), Haley Bova (Palmyra Pa./Palmyra Area) and Catherine Schneider (Gross Pointe Woods, Mich./Birmingham Marian)

Harriet Aburn (Wellington, New Zealand/Samuel Mardsen Collegiate School)

Three year varsity starter … named team captain her senior year, junior year vice captain … Jackson Cup team MVP award winner … led Samuel Mardsen’s field hockey team to its best record for three years … lettered for four years in cricket … coached a range of beginner field hockey teams from 210-2013 … played club for the Hutt Hockey Club. 

 

Lily Amadio (Shavertown, Pa./Dallas)

2010-2013 USAFH Futures participant, 2012 Selinsgrove Tournament Champion … 2010 Keystone State Games Indoor Tournament gold medal winner … 2012,2013 starter for Dallas High School … voted team captain in 2013 … Times Leader Coaches All-Star Award winner 2012,2013 … Dallas High School Coaches Award winner … member of National Honor Society. 

  Haley Bova  (Palmyra Pa./Palmyra Area)

Four year varsity letter … two time district champion (2013, 2011) … named a 2013, 2012 Mid Penn All-star … 2013 All County First team … All County Honorable mention in 2012 … played for High Styx club team … 2013 Festival club champion … holds the school record in the 4X400 for track 

  Giovanna Fasanello (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence Central)

Four year varsity starter … voted team captain twice … two time allstate honoree … tallied a career 47 goals and 33 assists … named 2011, 2012 team MVP … Section VI and Division champion during senior year … participated in the 2013 U19 National Futures Championship … scored a hat trick in Gold Medal Limelight Tournament … Attended Festival and Disney showcase from 2011-2014 …2012 AAU Junior Olympics silver medalist … plays for Southern Tier Storm club team under Stephanie Collins. 

  Alexandra Gonda (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West)

Four year varsity letter … voted team captain in 2013 … named All-State second team in 2013 … 2013 Citizen Voice and Times Leader All-Conference first team honors … Led the Wyoming Valley conference with 14 assists in 2013 … four year PHSFHCA All-State academic award winner … participated in Disney Showcase Field Hockey 2010-2014 .. played in the National Festival Tournament in 2012 … played for PA Elite Indoor club  2013-2014 … four year honor student.

  Addison Marshall (Blooming Glen, Pa./Pennridge)

Four year varsity starter … named team captain senior year … participated in the 2012 National Indoor Tournament … named to the Suburban One All-League team … played in the 2013 U19 National Indoor Tournament … played in the 2013 Disney Showcase Tournament and 2012 Field Hockey Festival …. 2012 Lafayette College Team camp Co-MVP … Distinguished honor roll student 2008-present … played for U16 and U19 FSC club field hockey teams. 

  Kayla McClure (Mohnton, Pa./Twin Valley)

Four-year starter at defensive back … named team captain as a senior ... earned All Division II first team and All-State second team as a senior ... named to the Pennsylvania High School Field Hockey Coaches Assocation All-Academic Team ... helped lead team to back-to-back Berks County Championships in 2012 and 2013 ... 2012 and 2013 district and state qualifier … 2012 All-Division First Team … Coaches Award for field hockey in 2012 … Most improved award team award in 2011 … 2011 All-division second team honors … National Festival Tournament Pool H champion… lettered in basketball and track and field … played for X-Calibur and High Styx club field hockey. 

Catherine Schneider (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Birmingham Marian)

Three-year varsity starter and team captain of team as a senior ... led team to state playoffs in three seasons, including the state semifinals during her junior campaign ... named to the All-Catholic Honor Team and First-Team All-State as a senior ... has been a part of the USA Field Hockey Futures program since 2011 and played in the 2012 NFC Tournament in Virginia Beach ... also lettered in varsity track three times.
