Chippewas Voted Atop MAC Preseason Softball Poll

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Central Michigan’s softball program has been picked as the MAC West and MAC Tournament Champions by the 2014 MAC Softball preseason poll the league office announced Thursday.  

The Chippewas were picked to finish first in the west division receiving six first place votes. Ball State also received six first place votes in front of Northern Illinois (third), Western Michigan (fourth), Eastern Michigan (fifth), and Toledo (sixth).

In addition to a projected top spot in the west division, the Maroon and Gold were a favorite in repeating as MAC Tournament Champions. Central Michigan received four first place votes while Ball State, Kent State and Ohio each received two championship votes and Buffalo and Northern Illinois each received one.  

The head coaches representing the 12 MAC institutions participate in the voting for the preseason polls.

The Chippewas will start its season Friday at the Rosemont Rumble in Rosemont, Ill. against Drake at 7 p.m.
