MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The men and women’s track and field teams will travel to Ypsilanti for the Compass Cup Saturday for the first scored meet of the indoor season.
“This weekend gives us something in track and field we don’t always have and that’s a scored meet,” said director of track and field Mark Guthrie. “Now it’s about each person doing their job because there is a team score involved, very rarely do we have that in track and field anymore.”
The meet will feature MAC foes Eastern Michigan and Buffalo with the addition of Western Michigan on the women’s side.
On the men’s side, individual events will be scored on a point system for finishes one through six, while the relays will award points to the top three teams.
The women’s scoring system has yet to be determined.
“What we are talking to the student-athletes about is this is a great opportunity for a team event, for a bonding event and it's important everybody does their job in this,” Guthrie said. “I’m excited about this, the team is and the coaches are excited at the ability to have a scored event.”
Field events will begin at 11 a.m. with running events following at 1 p.m.
