Rochester, N.Y.- Central Michigan opens up Mid-American Conference play on Friday, March 22, in a three-game road trip at Buffalo. The Chippewas finished enter conference play 9-10 on the season, and led by sophomore Nick Regnier at the plate with 16 RBIs.
Central Michigan (9-10) opened MAC play last season at Theunissen Stadium against the Bulls (10-9), winning two of three games, 7-2 and 14-13. The Chippewas are 15-4 all-time against Buffalo, dating back to 2003.
Sophomore righty Jordan Foley will get the start on the mound for Central Michigan, and faceoff against Anthony Magovney. In five starts, Foley leads the Chippewas with a 4-0 record and a 1.08 ERA. He has a team-high 33 strikeouts and opponents are hitting .177 against him. Magovney enters the weekend 3-1 with a 4.66 ERA. He has given up 34 hits and 19 runs this season.
On Saturday, March 23, senior right-hander Pat Kaminska will match up against leftie Mike McGee of the Bulls. Kaminska has started five games this season and has racked up 21 strikeouts. McGee has gone 1-3 in five starts this season, and opponents are hitting .284 against him
The right-handed sophomore, Dylan Rheault, will close out the series on Sunday, March 24, for Central Michigan against Mike Burke for Buffalo. This matchup will be Rheault’s third start of the season in seven appearances. He has a 1-0 record and has struck out 12 batters. Burke has a 4.93 ERA in five starts. He has won two games and given up 33 hits.
The Regnier brothers have stepped up for the Chippewas through 19 games, currently the only two batters hitting over .300. Nick’s 27 hits, 16 runs and three homeruns lead Central Michigan. Freshman Logan has knocked in 11 runs and scored another 11. In 70 at bats, he has 23 hits, eight of which were for extra bases.
Jason Kanzler leads the Bulls with a .354 batting average in 19 starts. He has a team-high five homeruns and 23 RBIs. In 15 appearances, Jim Topps has 12 hits in 44 at bats for a .386 average. He has four RBIs and two extra base hits.
The series will be played at Monroe Community College in Rochester, N.Y. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday. Saturday and Sunday’s games are anticipated to begin at 1 p.m.
