Moore Scores Game-Winning Goal in OT at Ohio

ATHENS, Ohio – Junior midfielder Mary Alice Moore scored the game-winning goal in an overtime 2-1 victory against Ohio, Saturday afternoon.

Moore found the back of the cage, recording her fifth goal of the season, at the 84:02 mark of overtime assisted by senior midfielder Skylar VanNatta off a penalty corner by senior back Abby Roth.

The Chippewas (5-8, 2-1 MAC) shot twice in the 82nd and 83rd minute of overtime but Bobcat goalkeeper Brittany Walker made the saves to keep the game at 1-1. Ohio (5-8, 1-1 MAC) penetrated early in overtime with four shots on goal, including two back-to-back from Adele Sammons and Jessica Jue. Sophomore goalkeeper Sadie Reynolds kept the Bobcats from victory with two crucial saves in overtime.

CMU started its offense early on in the first half but couldn’t finish. Senior forward Bailey McKeon tried to score at the 6:05 mark of the first period but Walker made first save of the game.  The Maroon and Gold tried to grasp points with four shots on goal in the first period but remained scoreless.

The Green and White took lead at the 19:59 mark of the first period when Luli Gomez Teruel scored on the left side of the circle off a pass from Franziska Schmiedel.

CMU tied up the game at the 40:38 mark of the second period.  The Maroon and Gold were in scoring position off a penalty corner by junior back Jordyn Brengosz. Brengosz accepted a pass from McKeon to put the Chippewas on the board by tipping the ball into the left corner of the cage.

Before regulation time ran out, the Chippewas attempted to take the lead with four shots in a row but Walker kept the game tied with three saves taking the contest into overtime.

The Chippewas will be back in action taking on Michigan State in a non-conference game on Tuesday, October 22 at 3 p.m.
