Chippewas Unable to Overcome Bowling Green in 3-1 Loss

Bowling Green, Ohio - The Central Michigan volleyball team fell to defending Mid-American Conference Tournament champion Bowling Green 3-1 Saturday night.

The Falcons (10-10, 6-2 MAC) were able to take a two-set advantage behind 25-17 and 25-19 wins in and closed the match with a 25-10 victory in set four.

CMU bounced back from the 2-0 deficit with a 25-23 win in the third set, but were unable to continue the momentum as the Falcons' defense buckled down and held the Chippewas to just six kills in the fourth and decisive set.

Junior outside hitter Kaitlyn McIntyre led the Chippewas with 14 kills in the match, while senior libero Jenna Coates had another stellar night defensively with 22 digs. McIntyre chipped in with 13 digs to post a double-double for the Maroon and Gold.

The Chippewas were able to take the third set thanks in part to stellar play by senior Katie Schuette and McIntyre as both players recorded four kills and hit above .300 in the set. The defense also stepped up and held the Falcons to just a .152 hitting percentage in the third set.

CMU trailed by as much five, 11-6, on a kill by Paige Penrod that forced a timeout, and still trailed late in the set, 20-16, that forced its second timeout. A 5-1 run allowed the Maroon and Gold to even the match 21-21. McIntyre then served three-straight aces to give CMU a set point, 24-21 and a kill by Schuette gave CMU its' only win of the night, 25-23.

The loss dropped the Chippewas to 9-11 on the season, including a 3-5 mark in the MAC. CMU returns home next weekend for a pair of cross-divisional matchups versus Buffalo and Akron.
